So... I had no intention of originally entering any of my paintings in the fair until multiple people suggested I do it. After rejection from an actual art studio I was slightly hesitant to go about sending my work out for further scrutiny. I checked into the entry info and there was no charge to have them jurored and no stipulations so I thought, "Why not?" I took 2 of the 3 'art rejects' (as I call them) and decided to enter them.
"The Matter horn" and "Twin Flame", were the two I entered in the Northwest Washington Fair this year. It was nerve racking standing in line with AMAZING artist who had paintings that blew mine out of the water, and to think I was going to be judged against them..... It was sweaty palms, fidgets and lots of uncomfortable moments for me... but I turned in my paintings that weekend and hoped for the best.
The fair opened and my neice had texted me that night to ask to ask what building my paintings were in, as she was excited to them. Within minutes I got photos of my paintings hanging along the wall.
But the biggest surprise for me was the sencond photo she sent, the caption read "!!!!" It was a photo of my painting "The Matterhorn", and the tag had a 2nd place ribbon on it....
The words "Holy shit" flowed forward over and over and over again. I literally could not grasp that that was my painting in that photo.
I cried.
My husband and I headed to the fair the following weekend to see it in person. Now, I was going to go anyway, but the fact that I got 2nd was a big incentive lol
That painting was the second painting I ever created and was proud enough to show off. Im fairly confident with time there will be more moments like this to come.
